Beside you every step of the way

Eating Disorder Support in a Calm, Compassionate Space.

Charlotte Harper: The Caravan Counsellor

I am a warm, non-judgemental counsellor, offering disordered eating support for adults and young people, both face to face in York and online across the UK.

You Might Be Experiencing

  • Ongoing difficulties with eating or body image

  • Cycles of restriction, bingeing, or purging

  • A loss of control when it comes to food

  • Constant food thoughts or body image distress

  • Feeling unsure whether things are “bad enough” to seek help

You don’t need a diagnosis or a label to deserve support.

You don’t need to be under or over a certain BMI to deserve support.

If it feels hard, I’d love to help. Read on to see if this support feels right to you.

  • Eating difficulties are rarely about food alone.

Our work focuses on understanding what sits underneath, gently, safely, and without pressure.

    This is support that:

    • Truly understands and doesn’t judge you

    • Looks past the eating disorder to connect with the person underneath

    • Doesn’t rush or force change

    • Respects your pace and autonomy

    • Creates space to talk honestly

    We start where you are.

  • Recovery can feel complex and frightening, often involving a pull between wanting change and feeling scared of it.

In our work together, I will:

    • Listen with empathy and take your experience seriously

    • Move at a pace that feels manageable, not rushed

    • Actively support your recovery, even when it feels uncomfortable

    • Gently challenge the eating disorder, not you

I won’t collude with patterns that keep the eating disorder in control.

Instead, I’ll work alongside you, offering honesty, encouragement, and steady support as you move towards the recovery goals that matter to you.

Many people find this setting calm and gently containing, a comfortable, welcoming space where it feels easier to slow down and talk.

If you are a family member concerned about your loved one, I also offer intensive Family Support packages to give you the tools needed to support them whilst maintaining your own wellbeing

I offer practical, compassionate guidance for parents, partners and carers in the form of my Eating Disorder Family Support Packages.

When someone you love is struggling with an eating disorder, it can feel frightening, confusing, and overwhelming. You want to help, but you're unsure what to say, how to respond, or how to support them without making things worse.

These sessions give you calm, clear guidance so you can support your loved one with confidence. As well as the time within the sessions, I have also created resources and handouts to go alongside them. The full package includes email and text support outside of sessions.
